  • A farmhouse holiday in Grosseto means enjoying fully the culinary tradition of Tuscany Maremma. The range of typical food produce and dishes is huge, but we can suggest a special treat, once reserved to the noble class of the region, despite its name: the fisherman fettuccine ("fettuccine del pescatore"). The main ingredients are scampi, oysters, arugula, salt, pepper, garlic and extra-virgin olive oil: a festival for seafood lovers! If you prefer more "earthy" flavours, you can ask your farmhouse's landlord in Grosseto: fragrant wild mushrooms are widely common in the Maremma country and they are the basic ingredient for a homemade mushroom soup, best accompanied by garlic bread and parmigiano reggiano.

When visiting Tuscany, no accomodation is better than a holiday farmhouse. Grosseto, the capital of Maremma, and its region is well-known for the great numbers of farmhouses. Grosseto itself is an interesting town, rich with artistic and historical monuments, as most of the Tuscany towns are. Churches and palaces in Grosseto have lived and transformed themselves throughout the centuries: they host different masterworks of important Tuscan painters and sculptors, ranging from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. The typical brick walls surround the historic part of the town and provides it with a romantic and dreaming-like atmosphere.

When you take a reservation in a Grosseto farmhouse, you're gaining the opportunity to experience fully all the attractions and wonders of Tuscany, from the green hills of the inner countryside to the splendid sea coast. If you prefer the latter, you should visit Punta Ala, on the southern Follonica Gulf, lying beautifully on a green stripe of coast, just in front of a grand pinewood. Not far from Grosseto, Punta Ala is a main touristic location, providing the visitors with night clubs, restaurants, a nice and elegant port, competing with the most famous ports in Italy and the most famous golf camp in Italy.

Today it's quite common to spend a holiday or a weekend in a farmhouse in Grosseto. But few people know that this is possible thanks to the great drainage ordered by Leopoldo II, Duke of Tuscany, in the XVIII century. Maremma was at the time particularly humid, marshes occupied a large part of the region and this situation favoured the diffusion of malaria infections (malaria is actually an Italian word meaning "bad air"). Drainage transformed Grosseto and its region into the romantic and magnificent country that everybody can admire today, preserving in any case the wild and mysterious fascination of Maremma.
